What are Inversion Tables and How do they Work?

Inversion tables are designed to help improve posture and reduce back and joint pain.

Inversion tables work by securing a person in an inverted position (up to a full 180 degrees) which helps to naturally stretch the body and subsequently helps to improve flexibility and relieve pressure on the spine and joints.

In addition, “inverting” can also help to stimulate the circulation, increasing blood circulation and overall energy levels.

Some people find that it can take a little while to get used to the inverted position and it may be best to begin with a short period of time and less inversion angle, gradually working your way up with longer periods and up to the full 180 degree angle.

Once you get used to the unique feeling of using an inversion table, you will find it a very relaxing experience and as a consequence “inverting” will also help to reduce stress levels.

Types of Inversion Tables

There are many different types of inversion tables on the market today, some more basic than others.  All inversion tables should be strong and sturdy with non-skid stabilizers and secure you safely and correctly in place.

Inversion tables should be adjustable for different user heights and, for safety, your ankles should be secured with ankle straps.  If you find the ankle straps uncomfortable, then this is usually rectified by wearing an extra pair of socks or sports shoes for padding.

Most inversion tables have extra-long safety handles for easy operation, while some inversion tables offer remote control operation.

Higher end and more advanced inversion tables incorporate heat therapy or infrared heat therapy in the back rest for added relief to help relax muscles even further.

When choosing an inversion table, remember to check out the user weight capacity of a table, i.e. how much body weight the table will support.  Also, check that the table is adjustable and will fit your height range.

If you haven’t got a lot of space in your home, look out for inversion tables that fold up for easy storage.

See what other people who have bought an Inversion Table have to say about them:

D.H.:
"I've suffered from back pain for years and visit a chiropractor regularly.  I bought an Inversion Table and it does what it says!  Just 2x 10 minute sessions on the inversion table and my pain is gone."

K.P.:
"The Inversion Table has saved my life!  Spending just a few minutes on the inversion table when my back hurts is all it takes to relieve the pain.  I can come home crawling in total agony, get on the inversion table, and then walk away upright.  My back still hurts, but the table helps me get by."

J.M.:
"I have had a bad back for over 30 years.  I bought an inversion table about 3 weeks ago, it works very well and I am now getting some relief.  I use the inversion table about 2 times a day for about 10 minutes each time.  I felt dizzy when I first started using the inversion table as I wasn't used to it, but I went slowly with short periods of time to begin with and now it doesn't bother me.  If you suffer from back/spine problems, then I would recommend an Inversion Table."

N.B. It is advisable to consult your doctor or health care professional before using an inversion table or if you have any concerns regarding back pain or any other health conditions.
